SERVE OUR COMMUNITY
AA Meetings
St. Luke’s hosts an Alcoholics Anonymous & Al-Anon meeting on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM in the Parish Hall.
Angel Tree
We adopt community families through Social Services to provide gifts to the families at Christmas. Our members choose names from the Christmas tree in the parish hall, purchase the requested items, wrap them and deliver to St. Luke’s. We then deliver gifts to the respective families.
Backpacks of Love
This is a local organization that provides backpacks of food for school-aged children in Powhatan and six surrounding counties every weekend during the school year. St. Luke’s contributes food items weekly to this organization.
Catechesis
Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd certified teachers offer the same Montessori based formation program to community children.
Coalition of Powhatan Churches
The Coalition is a group of churches of all faiths who believe that by pooling our resources we can help the citizens of Powhatan County have a better life. We participate in projects undertaken by this group and we contribute financially.
Food Pantry
We donate food items to the local food pantry weekly and provide complete Thanksgiving meals for the Food Pantry to distribute. In addition to regularly staffing the Food Pantry on the first Thursday of the month, several parishioners volunteer weekly.
Habitat for Humanity
We support Habitat for Humanity both financially and physically volunteering whenever help is needed.
Knitting Guild
The knitters meet at Parish Hall on the first, third, and fifth Mondays at 1:30 PM for two hours. They provide prayer shawls, knitted caps, lap robes, and baby blankets to parishioners and others in need. Instruction is provided for beginners. All are welcome.
Lions Club
We support the Lions Club project by donating eyeglasses and hearing aids to their organization.
Senior Luncheon
We host a luncheon the third Tuesday of every month at 11:45 for senior citizens in the area. We serve a healthy, delicious meal. In addition, we keep in touch with our seniors and assist them whenever they need help throughout the year.
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
-1 Peter 4:10
Saint Luke's believes that serving our community not only deepens our relationship with God, but also with our fellow brothers and sisters. Our parish is committed to answering God's call to "love our neighbors as ourselves." ( Matthew 22:39)
We do this by feeding the hungry, comforting the sick and dying, staying in touch with the lonely, and helping those who struggle.
