Ash Wednesday Service

Ash Wednesday kicks off several weeks of self-examination, quiet time with God, and repentance (the season called Lent). At this solemn service, you will be invited to observe a Holy Lent, receive Holy Communion, and may mark your forehead with ashes or dirt as a reminder that our time on earth is fleeting.

You may pick up ashes and communion elements at the Parish House. They will be in the drawer underneath the tabernacle. They will be there starting Saturday (2/13) afternoon, weather permitting.

Instructions for Imposition of Ashes

  1. Join the service on Zoom

  2. At the appropriate time during the service, apply the ashes to our forehead and to the foreheads of those with you, if any.

  3. Remember that these ashes have been blessed; therefore, please do not dispose of the cotton swab in the trash. Best practice is to bury the cotton swab outside, or in a houseplant, or burn it. The cotton swab used is biodegradable.

  4. Should you not have enough ashes for all of those with you, you may use ashes from your fireplace or dirt from a houseplant - just remember to use olive oil to moisten the cotton swab, not water.
