Beloveds,On behalf of your Wardens and Vestry, I am delighted to announce The Rev. Dale Custer has been appointed your Priest-in-Charge for a term of three years effective May 1, 2021. As Priest-in-Charge, Dale+ will be eligible to be elected Rector, should that be God’s will for him and for the parish. Let us rejoice!Dale+ is a child of this diocese and of rural Virginia. Rector of St. John’s Chester since 2004, he is a 2000 graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary with extensive continuing education that emphasizes spiritual formation and pastoral care. He was baptized August 2, 1970 at St. Paul’s Peytonsburg. Dale+ and Doris, his wife of 16 years, are avid hikers and readers.

The people of St. Luke’s have experienced COVID-tide in a uniquely challenging set of circumstances. You have faced hard things and accomplished much in our brief nine months together. You and your Vestry have worked hard to prepare for your new Priest-in-Charge, and your work has been rewarded.I say again how proud I am of you and of all the ministry you have performed in these challenging times. You are living into your future with grace, dignity, passion, and love, and that futures looks bright.We will now turn our collective focus to welcoming the Custers with all our hearts, and all our minds, and our strength.
